30 years later after the immigration of hundreds of Cambodian refugees from the war-torn country, the Cambodian community decided it was time to commemorate the success of integration in Canada. The Cambodian community also took the opportunity to thank the helping hands of organizations and sponsors that opened their arms to the refugees of Cambodia in the late 70’s and early 80’s.
There was a wide range of entertainment and souvenirs; displays of photos during the refugee camps and of the first settlement of Cambodians in Ottawa, art of the Angkor period, classical Khmer music and dance, and poetry to remind us where we had come from.
The supporters and volunteers helped to create this event a memorable and historical moment for the Cambodian community in Ottawa. We would like to sincerely thank all who have participated.
Thank you Canada.
