Cambodian Family Picnic 2013

Dear Community members,

Summer is here, and its that time of year again. Time for us to get together for some fun in the sun.

On behalf of the Cambodian Association of Ottawa-Valley I would like to invite you all to join us in our annual community picnic. This year it will be on Saturday July 20, 2013 from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm at Vincent Massey Park.

Please see the attached poster for more details.

Bring your family, bring your friends, bring your aunts and uncles. Come one, come all. There will be many great traditional games, and this year we are very excited to add a new exciting game to the mix. You must come to find out what it is. If you want to share your voice with some karaoke singing, please bring along with you your CD’s.

Lets not forget about the volleyball and Boule tournament. Gather your team and sign up. Maybe this year we will get to crown a new winning team? We will have to wait and see.

The CAOV team are always looking for new members and volunteers. If you are a high school student looking for some volunteer hours, please let us know and join our team. The picnic is your chance to get involved.

We are also searching for some hidden talents. We will be doing a talent show in the near future and if you have some skills that you would like to share with the community, please let us know at the picnic or simply by calling or emailing us. The board members will be around throughout the day to answer any questions that you may have.

I am very excited and look forward to seeing you all there.

Regards,

Cambodian New Year 2012

April 14, 2012

On April 14th, the Cambodian community came together to celebrate an event shared by our relatives and ancestors to end the harvesting season. We celebrated with the traditional entertainment of the Hanuman dance (commonly known as the Monkey Dance) and Robam Jun Por. Up next was the Cha Cha and Ballroom dance which always captivates the audience with it’s sleek outfit and elegant movements. We also had the opportunity to end the shows with a viewing of the clothing line of a young Khmer designer from Montreal name _, inspiring us with the talents of modern art intermix with traditional Khmer motifs.

The night ended with the crowd with smiles and laughter dancing on the floor and singers Sophira Ross, Lin Thida, keyboard player Mardy, and guitarist Bokhara Bun provided the music which guided the movements of the floor.

The CAOV would like to thank everybody who came to participate (special mention to our Montreal participants and members of the Laotian community) and made this night more than being successful, giving us the life to remind us the beauty of a culture and the heart of our community.

Cambodian Fundraising Party 2012

February 18, 2012

On February 18th, the Cambodian Association of Ottawa-Valley hosted a Cambodian Fundraising Party. The pop Cambodian music was provided by our local singer Sophira Ros and the ever so gracious Montreal singer Khunvannah. In tune with their vocals was again our local Bukhara playing guitar and Mardy from Montreal hitting the notes with his keyboard. The night was filled with Ramvong, Saravan, Madizone, and many more keeping the crowd on their toes and ready to bust a move.

Credit is due to all who volunteered and those who helped make this event possible.
